Winter is the time that people start finding skinny insects with long legs and antennae in houses and apartments. Most of the time these are immature stages of what is commonly called an assassin bug (insect Family Reduviidae). They can be green or brown or orange, but all assassin bugs prey on other insects. We commonly think of them as beneficial insects, but maybe not when they are in the house. They don't seek out people to bite, but they can bite if pinched between clothing or compressed in furniture. There is no need to haul out the can of Raid, just pick them up in a paper towel and put them outside. Here is the Wikipedia page for the assassin bugs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reduviidae .
